New people to the Anti-Trump and his cronies movement: welcome. You have some work to do. I’ve seen it all over the place. The slow crescendo of Trump voter regret and the condemnation of this presidency and administration from Trump supporters. I find myself conflicted and angry instead of relieved. It wreaks of unaccountability. The usual stench that smogs up the United States these days. The entire reason we’re in this mess is that we didn’t hold the confederacy properly accountable. So I want to hold you accountable.

Trump Voter Regret Isn’t Enough: You Built the Platform He Used to Destroy Us

I had a conversation the other day that is being echoed across America. Trump supporters left and right are finally falling out of line and Trump voter regret is rising. They are beginning to question if there’s anything great about America at all under Trump’s administration. The economy is garbage, our world standing is shot, our kids are stupid and our government is full of villains right out of a Batman comic.

His base: reality tv show lovers, closeted racists and fascists, Russian bots, , the poorly educated, finance bros, the willfully naive and the people that have never been touched in kindness. I’m talking to all of you whether you’re feeling Trump voter regret or not.

You knew what was going to happen because people like me have been saying so since he announced his plan to run. We showed proof of his racism, of his behavior towards women and of all of his failures. You ignored it. Some of you laughed and mocked us. His lack of political experience wasn’t concerning, it was refreshing. About as refreshing as having a surgeon fresh out of clown college perform a triple bypass.  You allowed this man to make America trash tv.

So to claim you don’t know or can’t believe what is happening today is an insult. My face is still stinging from the slap. Instead of being relieved to have more of you fighting the good fight, I’m angry. Now that we’ve been bloodied and bruised in battle, you are just beginning to suit up. Well, your work is sadly cut out for you and your Trump voter regret doesn’t get you a pass to the front of the line. You don’t get to sneak on to the right side of history after building the platform Donald Trump uses to destroy America.

When the confederacy fell, racists scattered like rats into the shadows. But they continued to breed and embed their beliefs into their bloodlines. Like sleeper cells, many of you were waiting to be activated by the right source. The rest of you allowed yourself to be baited for the switch through naivety, neutrality and politeness, all of which have become some of Trump’s sharpest tools. When MAGA falls, I’ll remember who you were when it was at its height and your Trump voter regret doesn’t give you a pass. I will treat you as the threat you are until you’ve earned otherwise.

First things first. If you’ve got money, talk with it. Donate to grassroots organizations, donate to anything that will help the communities you affected by voting for Trump.

No money? No problem. Speak up. Loud and proud like at an AA meeting. Tell us who you are and why you voted for him in the first place and then why you’ve changed. Talk to your racist family. Grandma is not from a different time, she’s been on the same planet as we have for the last 30 years. Get with the program bitch. Talk to other trumpers, tell them about your experience. Find common ground in your new understanding, and joining forces for the common good.  Talk to the people you’ve hurt. We trusted you. We were your neighbor, your friend, your classmate. We were there in times of need, be there for us in ours. Apologize and mean it.

Moving forward, believe minorities. Question everything. Educate yourself on history, particularly American history. Don’t vote for anyone convincing you that they will restrict every else’s freedoms except for yours. Yours will come eventually. Don’t mock empathy, embrace it.

The Personal Cost of Your Vote

An open letter on Trump voter regret, to a family I was raised with.

Our doors were always open to each other despite our cultural differences. Your children were raised on arroz and frijoles because of us, the way I was raised on Shania Twain because of you. Every birthday party, and holiday we celebrated together. When the hurricanes destroyed our homes we rebuilt each others yards. Watching you support this man for years has left me sick and heartbroken. It changed my view on the world.

If my relatives hadn’t made the sacrifices they did to be here, we would have never met. The woman you lovingly called Abuela, was once an illegal citizen. I remember showing up to celebrate her citizenship ceremony. The wall you voted for? Unbelievable. The best man at your wedding has been deported to the other side of it. Your maid of honor’s family doesn’t feel safe despite being legal citizens. And your family had a hand in that.

I recognize your beliefs are changing but words feel like bandaids over broken bones. Nothing has healed. You weren’t always like this because I remember. You allowed yourself to become this.

You are welcome to change your opinions. I encourage it. But you better step in to relieve those who have been fighting. You need to earn your keep if you want to claim you’ve changed. Your words aren’t wiping away the years of damage.

You Regret Your Vote, what now?
