One figure is finally getting the deeper story she deserves on her 90th birthday, the Bride of Frankenstein. When it comes to Halloween Horror Nights, nobody does it quite like Universal. And if you’re a fan of the Universal Monsters, you already know they’ve been a staple of the event on both coasts for years.

From Dracula and the Hunchback of Notre Dame to the Creature from the Black Lagoon, these classic icons have popped up in haunted houses and mazes in both Orlando and Hollywood.

The Bride of frankenstein’s First Big Moment… Was Short

Let’s rewind to the source. In the 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein, the Bride herself only appears for a few brief minutes. She’s created in a dramatic lab scene, introduced to the Monster, and lets out a bone-chilling scream as she rejects him. That’s it. No lines. Just one piercing scream before the Monster flips a switch, blows up the lab, and takes everyone with him. Fade to black.

Despite being the title character and one of the most recognizable figures in horror, the Bride was more icon than character. Until Universal decided it was time to rewrite her legacy.

Enter: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives

In 2019, Universal Orlando featured a haunted house showcasing a lineup of the classic monsters. Guests stepped through rooms filled with familiar figures, from Dracula to the Creature, before arriving at Frankenstein’s lab where the Monster and the Bride came face to face for the first time.

The next year, Universal’s art and design team went deeper. Teaming up with Universal Pictures, they created a fresh concept: “The Bride of Frankenstein Lives.” This house debuted in 2020 as part of a limited daytime run during the pandemic, with only two houses open to the public. It later returned in full for the 2021 Halloween Horror Nights season on both coasts.

This time, the story didn’t stop with a scream. Universal asked a simple question: what if the Bride of Frankenstein chose to fight?

The haunted house picked up right after the end of the original film. The Bride, witnessing the Monster’s final sacrifice, decides to save him. She embarks on a mission, battling Dracula’s Brides and other creatures, collecting specimens, and conducting experiments to bring the Monster back to life. She becomes a force of her own. Not just a creation, but a creator.

and The universal Story Continues

The Bride wasn’t done yet. She returned in 2024 in the house titled “Universal Monsters: Eternal Bloodlines.” This new chapter followed her on a quest for revenge after Frankenstein’s Monster was killed again, this time by a powerful she-wolf.

The Bride, now fully stepping into her power, sought justice with the same fierce energy that had brought her back in the first place.
